Description

These models represent the formative years of steam railways and show three locomotives built between 1825 and 1838.

The first is "Locomotion No. 1," designed by George and Robert Stephenson. It was built at their Newcastle works for the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, where it became the first steam locomotive to pull a passenger train on a public railway. In doing so, it became the first steam locomotive to operate and haul a passenger train on a public railway in September 1825. 2025 marks the 200th anniversary.

With the experience gained, Robert Stephenson & Co. submitted a design for the Rainhill Trials of 1829, held to find the right motive power for the Liverpool & Manchester Railway. Their entry, "Rocket," was the clear winner and laid the foundation for future steam locomotive design on the L&MR, which opened the following year.

By 1838, locomotive design had already advanced, and the 0-4-2 No. 57 "Lion" was one of two "baggage" locomotives built to a Stephenson patent by Todd, Kitson & Laird of Leeds, also for the L&MR.

Note:

Locomotive No. 1 comes fitted with an 18-pin Next connector, but due to the size limitations of the locomotive, it unfortunately cannot accept an 18-pin HM7000 Next decoder.

The "Rocket" locomotive comes fitted with a 6-pin connector.

The "Lion" locomotive comes fitted with an 18-pin Next connector (NEM 662).

Set Contents:

3 model steam locomotives, 1 wooden pedestal, 1 accessory pack (including engraved name plates, fireman and driver figures, coupling chains, and magnetic couplings), 1 instruction manual, 1 display box.
