The M3 Stuart was an American-made light tank. It was used by many of the Allied armies during World War II, notably by the British Army and the Allied forces deployed in the African theater. The nickname Stuart was given by the British in honor of US General Jeb Stuart and was used for both the M3 and the M5, a later revision of the M3. In the United States Army, the tanks were officially known as the Light Tank M3 and Light Tank M5.
