The KV series was a production line of Soviet-made heavy tanks. They were named after the defense commissar and politician Kliment Voroshilov. At the time of Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union in World War II, the KV tanks were the best-protected tanks of their time, although they only represented 2% of the total Soviet armored forces on June 22, 1941. Their initial success in slowing down and wearing down the "panzer" forces earned them the nickname "Nazi killers".
